Caretaker's House

Location: Towlers Bay
Designed: 1980 (unbuilt)
Building Type: Residential

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service’s brief was for a small Caretakers house to be built at Towlers Bay on Pittwater.

The idea of curving corrugated iron was explored here to gain strength (and economy) in the plan dimension, rather than the section. A grid of pipe columns and corrugated iron sandwich panels (spanning 3 meters), form the basis of construction.

The simple in-line layout allows all rooms and a long veranda to obtain magnificent water views.
