House Darlinghurst
Location: Darlinghurst
Completed: 1997
Building Type: Residential
This is a typical two up and two down inner city terrace. Re-planning was undertaken to free up the ground floor and open vistas to the rear courtyard. A skylight over the new living room doors dramatically improved lighting to that room and opened it up to views of the trees and sky. Ceilings were lowered in part over ground floor spaces - giving contrast to the different volumes whilst providing duct space for services reticulation. Upstairs, wet areas were located in the middle of the plan to improve light to each bedroom. Some elements of previous renovations (like stairs) were retained to reflect the evolution of the building over time. At the roof apex is a small study that maximises storage and work space.
